Founded in 1964, the National Council of Women Malta is a non-governmental organisation comprising individual members and 30 Affiliated National Organisations representing business, unions, welfare and development groups.
It is non political, non sectarian, voluntary organisation which runs a wide range of courses, seminars, conferences for women's development. It also operates its own Community Technology Learning centre.
It promotes equal rights and opportunities and advocates the removal of all discrimination in all diversity.
It promotes the empowerment of women, positions in decision making, equal treatment in health, education, civic and human rights.
NCW also works in conformity with the aims of the International Council of Women and its European Committee to ensure sustainable development, eliminate poverty, trafficking in human beings and work for world peace.
The National Council of Women Malta has special consultative status with the United Nations Economic and Social Council (ECOSOC)
It is represented on the Civil Society Advisory Committee of the Commonwealth Foundation in London
It has representation on the European Economic and Social Committee in Brussels and has representatives in various national commissions and committees.
These include: Malta Council for Economic and Social Development (MCESD)
National Commission for the Promotion of Equality (NCPE)
National Commission for Sustainable Development (NCSD)
National Information Society Advisory Council (NISCO)
Monitoring Committee for EU Structural Funds, among others.
NCW is a member of the Forum of Civil Society Organisations (Malta)
