Stigamot is a counselling and
information centre on sexual violence. The two main goals are equally
important; to support survivors of sexual violence and to raise
awareness in society on a feministic platform.
The main forms of sexual violence
being rape and incest, but pornography, prostitution and trafficking
are becoming more and more important parts of the work, as the Icelandic
society has recently accuired a flourishing porno industry.
Media debate, lobbyism, seminars, lectures, projects, participation
in public committees and working groups, cooperation with others,
Nordic and international activities are also important part of the
work.
Stigamot has a representative in the Icelandic Task group against
Trafficking – organized by the Ministry of Justice and Ministry
of Gender- and Social Affair. Stigamot is also a hearing instance
for legislative bills regarding trafficking.
